Hi, my name is Pat and my channel is mainly wild camping, but having built a Pub Shed it will feature quite alot in my videos, and will involve drinking a lot of beer.
My Channel does have a lot of underground exploring adventures on, I may do some more.
Europen rail travel will be a main and interesting feature, I have many trips planned, hopefully one day I will be able to complete and film these
Cheers Pat

So much fun watching this Paddy.
Hi Patrick really enjoyed this wild camp video and weather this summer has been strange not a proper summer weather. Nice little tent and mods I hope work so good. Good that you can mod these tents and get it the way you want. It's given me ideas as I've got a few tents. I have sewing kit and I having sewing machine you can do your own repairs etc. Steak and chips that looked good and it's good to watch you cook these meals and giving me ideas on meals when camping myself. I just hate it when backpack is heavy and getting lighter stuff as I could do with lightweight sleeping mat. I like somethings better than others and it's great you can buy stuff that last a long time. Few items I buy aren't that good too. Take care Pat!
Thanks for all the content and entertainment you provide us all with Patrick. Will we be seeing any tree camps again?
You are a natural born presenter. I am just a southern Nancy but you relax me with your quaint northern accent. If a barmaid down south poured a pint like you do, we would think there is something wrong with the pump! (Btw - how do you stay so skinny drinking all that beer?). The best beers we can offer are Fullers and Youngs. The small Twickenham brewery is quite good. Would be great to get your honest opinion Patrick.
I really enjoyed watching your one day trip to Barcelona - now I'm jealous, I wish I could afford to go on such adventures ! Anyway thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to watching more content from you.
I'm aiming for a camp out and drink out with the lads (we will clean up!!!) and binging your vids to see how good it will be. Thanks for making it seem like a night to remember mate!
I ,am sure you will have a great night oput......all the best for your camp......thanks Pat
Thanks for another nice camp. I was never interested in camping until I started watching yours. I do miss your explores, though. The first video of yours that I saw was Megatron. Nice to hear that your birthday is in May. So is mine, although I'm a bit older (75). Looking forward to your next camp in Derwent Valley. Leave the bowl at home - you'll save lots of weight. 😂
Yes loved doing the explores but sort of run out of local places to go, great filming challenges down there as well, but wild camping for now.......thanks Pat
I really (to avoid the word "extremely") appreciate that you eat spaghetti with just a fork! I'll explain to you, why: I was once in Italy for work and was invited to a really good restaurant. Of course, one of the many courses was spaghetti. As I looked around my plate (where vast amounts of cutlery were draped), the very attentive host asked me what I was looking for. When I said that I was looking for a spoon (that's how I learned to do it at home: you turn the fork in a spoon to roll up the spaghetti), I got the answer: "HERE WE DO NOT need a spoon ..." and that was the end of the rest of the business visit - I had behaved in the most embarrassing way without realizing it... And when I was back in Germany at the company, my boss greeted me with the question of what bad thing had happened in Italy... 😱 Now, I can laugh about it, but since then I have never ever eaten spaghetti with the help of a spoon. 😂
The story behind this , when I was 19 we were at college and in digs with a landlady looking after us, she was Italian called Mama Tuss and had psata with every meal, just loved it and yes just a fork everytime......thanks Pat
Hello old man! (I am allowed to say this because I am 2 years younger than you! 🤣) I share your insights on the topic of "We will all grow old, even if we don't like it" - but ... ... I think it is important to have a "Plan B" for the phase of life in which you will be physically limited. As a student I started with an aquarium - quite special, because I created a real biotope with fish and plants of a certain area that were a perfect match and I had a very lucky hand with it. I enjoyed it a lot. But as the workload increased and the free time available (that is less than "free time") I had to give up this lovely hobby because caring for the plants and fish in a species-appropriate manner takes a lot of time. Even back then (I was only 25 or so) I had the plan: when you get old and frail, you can take up this hobby again. Since then I have looked forward to it and am much less afraid of reaching this stage in life. Until then, of course, I want to experience as much as possible outdoors in nature (hiking, cycling, kayaking) so that I can live off these memories later - without regrets because I did "everything". Yes, of course I could have done this or that and also... but as long as I can say at the end "I experienced (almost) everything!" (100% is never possible...), I have done everything right. And then it's good and I'm satisfied. New activities await: in my case, my aquarium. And ... maybe there is more that I don't know about yet? Exciting... 😊 P.S.: I went hiking in Scotland once (1986) and one morning I was eaten alive by midgets... they had made it INTO my sleeping bag (despite the protection of a Hilleberg tent)... I almost went mad and fled to the top of a hill in the cold morning drizzle (it wasn't even 6 o'clock) because up there was a bit of a wind. It didn't take long before my travel companion followed me... Since then I've known: that's my weak spot - psychologically I can hardly cope with such attacks from mosquitoes/midgets... Fortunately, that was only the experience of one single day. The rest of the holiday was great! Since I was travelling with a school friend and we had a joint budget, we had to do a final calculation: - 1/3 went for bus/train/ferry, - 1/3 for food... - and we simply drank the last third... Cheers to Scottish whisky 🥃and stout! 🍺 🤣
Hi that is a great way to think, so you have something to look forward to when you do get old, I will have to come up with some relaxing hobbies for my later years. Like you I do cram in as much as I can, and everyday has to be full, my wife says I never sit down and I can do 10000 steps in a day and not leave the house or garden, As for midges I agree with you they could sent me mad so try and avoid, or camp high hopefully with a breeze blowing......thanks Pat
Hey Patrick watching from Australia- enjoying your videos. Wondering what you did before your camping videos - before you “retired” - I hope I am not mistaken but we are similar in age - me 72. It’s great that you do this and have the body fitness to do so , mental strength etc. Well done living in nature every so often. Yes need to keep it as lite as possible especially as we get older - luckily they invent things but I agree to modifying what works. In Australia as I get older it’s the heat and keeping cool as your body doesn’t handle the heat so well. Guess I am heading for a shopping centre retirement with free air-con 🤣🤣 Aussies know what I mean.
Hi there, yes I don,t like the heat at all, I was going camping today but postponed it due to a mini heat wave, don,t laugh were talking 25C but did,nt fancy clinbing up 2000 feet in that heat. Before I retired I was a Electrical power Engineer for 40 years working on all voltages LV to 132kV it was outside and loved it, but there are better things in life so left at 56 and loved every day since.....all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 thanks for replying Pat - was t expecting but hoping you would. In my younger life I did a charity 8 day walk in the Simpson Desert of Australia about 35 yo 38 deg and sand hills - 35km each day - now that would kill me today!! I can see you enjoy what you’re doing and to be honest from the other side of the world I look forward to your videos and the countryside you share. Thank you - the steak and potatoes and asparagus a bl’dy good feed 👏🏼👏🏼
What a great camp and food Sir Pat.🫡
Yes it was a great location, very quiet and peaceful....just what I wanted.....thanks Pat
Hello Patrick! The thing that bothers me about all tents of this type is the low height. I once had the Hilleberg Akto and when it was stolen I was almost glad that I had to buy a new tent. I'm only an average 1.75 m tall, but I could never sit in the tent entrance without ducking my head (and that's exactly where you want to sit when it's raining and you want to cook in the awning) - that really annoyed me. The rest of the tent was great, if not spectacular. That's why I kept taking it on trips - and always ended up getting annoyed. I then found a Robens tent (the "Kite" (ruclips.net/video/EcI4fDNgMCo/видео.html), which is unfortunately no longer produced - I could only get hold of it second-hand) that has the crucial 10 cm more height - that's an incredible gain in comfort! And like the Akto, you can pitch it - if you have no other option - with a single peg at each end. (or 1 end tied to the kayak, the other to a tree root) Unfortunately, the tent weighs 2.35 kg, because it has 3 poles and is made of "heavy duty quality" which of course has its advantages. But the weight doesn't matter for my bike or kayak tours. For my hiking tours, I tried the Chinese Lanshan 2 pro - but the single-wall construction has its disadvantages... Weight and pack size are of course great! Now I have the DURSTON X-Mid 2 and I'm delighted: ~1 kg, minimal footprint and 4 pegs are really enough and I always hike with hiking poles anyway. Although this tent now seems ideal to me, I have also "pimped" it, because with 45 years of outdoor experience, I know many small, helpful tricks from many tents [yes, I also had to engage my sewing machine ;-) ] - and it's the little things that ultimately decide whether a tent is "pretty good" or "top notch". Your idea with the clothespins is funny and good; with these clips from the sewing accessories you can optimize this even further: they are super strong, super small, super light, super cheap - and the metal clip is made of stainless steel. Hi Ralf, yes the tent has limited head room, but you will n ever get the perfect tent, its lightweigh attracted me and since this video I have sorted the door roll up and a few more pockets so looking good. The little clips you show I know them as magic clips and use them for my sewing projects instead of pins, but good for tent doors as well. I have an older tent a Field and Trek Trailmaker, great size and massive porch for cooking but the weight is too much, so its just finding the happy medium between weight and features.......thanks Pat
Instead of a bottle you use an acutal piss jug lol thats just too much for me
All seems to work well, 3 litres should last a while......thanks Pat
Good idear patrick not cheap thow
No not cheap at all, but my plan is for when my wife and sons say I,m too old to be out there, I shall say, look I have this tracker, what more can I do.
We are all getting old pat not good though keep it going
Yes definetly planned to fight it.....all the best Pat
Very interesting range tour Sir Pat. Nice quiet wid camp to end. Stay safe.
Thanks, you too! will be out again soon, when its cooled own, far too hot this week......thanks Pat
That's a great place to start a walk I think Patrick. I remember going over to Fox House via Limb Valley, when I was a young lad, about 55 years ago, and it was very beautiful, and very peaceful then. There have been some changes since, and Whinfell Quarry Gardens is certainly not what it was. Also Whinfell House, home of the Neal family (of James Neal Tools/Eclipse) fame is no longer a private house, but rather a sort of posh housing estate. The ex-Councillor who was supposed to sort out the private funding for the disastrous World Student Games was given a house there, (replete with swimming pool), along with a very fat salary (and failed to raise a single penny in private funding). I've walked there so many times, and it's a good route on a scorchingly hot day. I still have a Terra Nova tent, had that one for about 30 years! They're good tents, but one of my complaints as a gear-tester back then, (and it is a long time ago), is that they weighed twice what the given weight was! You shot up Limb Valley Pat! 😁It looks like the old ruined farmhouse has gone, and the path looks to have been simplified a bit. Watch out for them cows, they nearly killed a bloke a few years back! 😱 It sounds like you should be designing tents Pat! 🙂 Great video, I'm glad you're as active as ever, and what a feast! 👍
Hi Jack yes Limb valley is a great way to get up to Ringinglow shaded by the trees on a hot day, the old Whirlow Hall has shut but a new cafe, in the old toilet block has recently opened and worth a visit. I had planned a camp today but far too hot so will have to wait for cooler conditions, may walk up to the Norfolk Arms later in the week instead.....thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Hi Pat, I've heard that the family who once owned it used to refer to it as Little Switzerland. That's a shame about Whirlow Hall, it was still very old fashioned the last time I was there, though usually I went past the dam like you did. I hope that you can get out again soon my friend. If ever you need a really big rucksack for some reason, I have a couple of very good ones that are brand new, but date from the mid 90's 👍
Never noticed the Sheffield Tap when I was there...maybe next time.
Hi David you can access it from Platform 1 or if outside the station its on the left, good selection of beers with about a dozen handpumps.....thanks Pat
Great video pat. You make better looking food out in the wild that I do from home 🤣.
Hi Nathan, yes cooking some nice food is a major part of any wild camp for me.....thanks Pat
Great Video, thanks
Thank you for watching and commenting......thanks Pat
Great mods to your Laser there Pat. I’ve got a similar shelter that I’ve done plenty to mine but really like those D-rings you’ve put on to solve the issue with staking the inner. Luckily my Mrs helps with the sewing as my fingers have no intelligence 😅👍🏼👍🏼 All the best👍🏼
Thanks Jack, certainly improved my tent and not to difficult, if I did it again I might have used plastic 18 mm rings instead of the D rings as I think they will fit better, but both good at end of the day, all the bnest with your mods......thanks Pat
Great video. Your pronunciations made me laugh. Catalan is spoken in Barcelona so that doesn't help. Prat = meadow for example. I hate carrying anything, a bum bag around the waist is the only thing I find comfortable. No room for a tent but ok for my sketching stuff. I don't know how you lug 10 kilos about. Exellent photography in all you vids
Yes my pronunciation of most forign language is poor, perhaps its my Yorksire Dialect, a;ways happy with a rucksack on my back as it means I'am going somewhere, which is what I like......thanks Pat
Great video Patrick. Was great to talk with you in Dublin.
Hi Declan, yes it was so kind of you to say hello ,we had a great time in Dublin and loved your pubs…….thanks Pat

Just discovered this after my annual walking trip to Castleton and Kinder Scout (not camping) Always wanted to go to Bleaklow, can almost see it from where I live. Brilliant stuff. Greetings from Huddersfield.
Hi Jill, I think you will love Bleaklow for its isolation and unspoilt wild moorland, but becareful, so wasy to get lost in its vastness and remoteness .....all the best Pat
Smashing vid Pat, thanks for sharing your secrets. Can I ask you about the music, its always so good on your videos, where do you get it from?
Hi Phil, as for music it all comes from the RUclips Audio Library, I sometimes just sit and listen to all the different tracks picking out and downloading a couple that makes me feel good or adventurous rouse in future videos……..thanks Pat
Hi Patrick, sorry for being late this month, hope your keeping will. Ray.
Hi Ray, yes we are both very well, and thank you for commenting…..thanks Pat
Great Video Patrick. I see from the background your sewing mail bags as well.!! Maybe see you and your good Lady in the Old Hall in Whitehough again
Haha, yes there is everything in my garage, my two sons think they can leave anything in there, hope to bump into you again one day…..thanks Pat
Pat, Great vid as per. I have the same issue with my legs on the mat, So I invested in a Fleece sleeping bag liner but using it as a sleeve for my sleep mat. Hope this little idea helps.
Hi there and yes a great idea, just in the process of modifying a silk sleeping bag liner to put over my mat…..thanks again Pat
Nice one Pat great job nice steak an chips

When you combine Keith Floyd with Bear Grylls, love watching your channel Patrick, keep up the great work 🙂
Thanks Dean, yes love the wild camping, and the cooking, just perfect…….thanks Pat
I love all your videos Pat but the wild camping ones are my favourites. I follow Paul's channel and its a great pic of both of you. He hinted at a joint venture in the future. That's one I'd like to see. Excellent as always.
Hi David yes wild camping is were I started, and it is my main love…….thanks Pat
Why didn't you keep to the bracken over thr mud
Walk that way many times, just go straight through each time…….thanks Pat
Patrick good to see you out and about rough camping again, good economical updates to your gear. I updated my older tents a while back, It was trickery work but turned out well in the end. Took your advice and gave Guinness Drought Stout a try and I think I found a new favorite. Have you thought about creating a book or a guide of our your adventures. We love the locations and history your share. Take care.
Hi Robert yes very satisfying to mod and improve your camping gear, but it is a learning curve, and enjoy your Guinness…….thanks Pat
Another great camp Pat, the steak looked fantastic! Seeing Whirlow always reminds me of the awful Silverdale school cross country route I used to do! 😂
Hi James yes I understand were your coming from being forced to run, I had similar experience at Tapton in the late 1960,s, my claim to fame though is that I can say I raced again Seb Coe, although I was perhaps walking……thanks Pat
Pat quick question, I watch a vlogger called County House Gent, primarily a narrowboat channel. However he recently completed a motorcycle tour of Scotland wildcamping, he said that you can't legally wildcamp in England unless you get the landowners permission but you can in Scotland. Any thoughts? Regards from Chester. P.S. he's just sent me details showing you definitely need permission.
Hi Philip, yes he’s perfectly correct, there is no level right to wild camp in England, but a lot of people do, but they do it discreetly, and leave no trace, and it is sort of accepted. To actually find the owner of a piece of land and ask permission in the night would be more or less impossible……thanks Pat
Thanks Pat.
Great Video
Glad you enjoyed it Richard…..thanks Pat
You do make great videos Patrick thanks for all your efforts
Thank you so much, really appreciate that……thanks Pat
|Good to see you out and about Patrick, a great camp once again. One suggestion regarding your legs on the mat, why not take a lightweight sleeping bag liner and put the mat in that. That should be more comfy :), All the best and see you next time.
That isa great idea and one Im following up at the moment , silk would be very light as well……thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Glad I could be of help Sir, looking forward to your next adventure :)

A lovely spot up there, with such fantastic views all round, hope you had a great time……thanks Pat
Fab. Reminds me of a similar trip I made alone from Wales to Bordeaux and onto Massat by the Pyrenees in 2017, looking for my friend who disappeared in 1995. It was also full of unexpected events. I did it all by train and taxi. Just wish I had filmed it.
Sorry to hear about you friend, but can agree trips like these are real adventures …….all the best Pat
Mate, I’m a gentleman of a similar age to yourself and age isn’t kind. Physically I’m similar to you, I’m also going bald quicker than a Usain Bolt race. People can be quick to comment without consideration for others. I’m delighted that you are the way you are, speak the way you do and make videos the way you do. Keep them coming. 🎉
Hi Mike and thanks for the understanding comments, we’re all getting older, just got to make the most of every minute we have, here’s to many more wild camps for the both of us……..thanks Pat
Sat in your tent against the elements is so nice.Hearing wind and rain or snow in your case adds to the experience. Packing up can be hard but when you get home you're looking forward to doing it again.
So true!….such a nice feeling knowing you are safe, warm and secure no matter what Mother Nature can through at you……thanks Pat
I absolutely love your videos, long may they continue
Very nice of you to say, hoping for many more wild camps these coming months……..thanks Pat
The thing about UK's lush forestry and landscapes is that there exists a modicum of safety to the camper due to either, the lack of hiker's based on the wane of hiking in general or you are venturing deep and away in seclusion. Here in America, it seems riskier and less safe to venture on camping excursions due to homelessness and plain ol' over-population where one lacks the luxury of open space in vast amounts. Even when you think you've got away from it all, you'll eventually see someone encroaching from out of no where. You should be so lucky, ty for showing me another side of the UK outside of 'swinging London' and the urban setting.
Hi there, always envious of your wide open spaces in the US,we are so populated that it is difficult to find isolation. But with some local knowledge, and several years of roaming my local hills you do come across these perfect isolated spots……all the best Pat
